  • 1939:

    Establishment of the Shoe Factory at Mattakkuliya to supply footwear to the British Forces.

  • 1940:

    Government buys the first Tannery established in Ceylon, Enterprise known as Eastern River Tannery in Kosgama.

  • 1941:

    The Government set up the ‘Ceylon Government Leather Factory’ under the State Department of Industries to manufacture boots and accessories for the Armed Forces.

  • 1956:

    The factory converted into a State Corporate under State industrial Corporation Act of 1955.

  • 1959:

    Name changed to DI Leather. The Corporation had Three Factories – Shoe Factory, Tannery and Leather Goods Factory situated at Mattakkuliya.

  • 1963:

    Launch of a “Veldtschoen” shoes to the market. The design popularly known as “D50” for school girls.

  • 1964:

    Opening of the first show room and sales centre at Kollupitiya.

  • 1965:

    First worker to be appointed to the Directorate of a Public Corporation.

  • 1967:

    Created history by being the first Industrial organization to export footwear from Ceylon. Buyer, Razanoe Import Export USSR.

  • 1968:

    Collective Agreement signed with the major Trade Unions – First agreement of this nature signed by a State Corporation.

  • 1969:

    Created history by being the first Government Industrial organization to export slippers from Ceylon. Buyer, Ceach Import Czechoslovakia.

  • 1970:

    Establishment of New tannery at Mattakkuliya, largest in Sri Lanka, designed and installed by experts from Czechoslovakia.

  • 1972:

    Establishment of Leather Goods Factory at Industrial Estate to produce a wide range of leather goods from Belts to Bags.

  • 1981:

    Setting up a Joint Venture company “Korea Ceylon Footwear Manufacturing Co. Ltd in the Free Trade Zone, Katunayake to manufacture Canvas Shoes for the Export Market.

  • 1982:

    Implementation of a UNIDO Project Assistance Programme to establish Costing System Quality Control Systems and Training of Personnel to carry out costing of shoes.

  • 1983:

    Presidential Export Award – Outstanding Performance of a Government Corporation.

  • 1984:

    Presidential Export Award for Outstanding Performance.

  • 1985:

    Setting up a Rubber Factory to manufacture Compound for the D M S.

  • 1989:

    Created history by innovating the Anti-mine Boot along with the Engineering Regiment of Sri Lanka Army.

  • 1990:

    Under the Companies Act No. 17 of 1982 Government converted the Corporation to a Government owned Business undertaking, under the name of “Ceylon Leather Products Limited”.

  • 1991:

    Government under the Institution Privatization Programme sold the controlling shares of 90% in Ceylon Leather Products Limited to M/s. S A Perera & Co. Ltd the highest bidder.

  • 1999:

    Ventured into Exporting Leather, Leather Footwear and goods to U.K, India and Japan.

  • 2003:

    After a successful initial public offer the shares listed on the main board of the Colombo Stock Exchange.

  • 2004:

    Setting up a Rubber Factory to manufacture Compound for the D M S.

  • 2005:

    The Management Systems of the company assessed and certified by SGS United Kingdom as meeting the requirements of ISO 9001:2000.

  • 2006:

    Bronze Award Winner in the Extra Large Category for Exporters by the National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka.

  • 2008:

    The Company office, footwear and the leather goods factory were moved to a new premises comprising of 72,000 sq.ft buildings and land extent of 2.9 acres.

  • 2009:

    Lanka Century Investment PLC took over controlling interest of the company.

  • 2010:

    Acquired 51% stake in South Asia Textile Industries Lanka (Pvt) Ltd and 8.31% stake in Dankotuwa Porcelain PLC.

  • 2010: Winner

    - Silver Award in National Business Excellence Award in Apparel Textile and Leather Products Sector by the National Chamber of Commerce.

    - 7 Awards won by DI Designers at Footwear and Leather Products Fair 2010 organized by the Export Development Board in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and Sri Lanka Footwear and Leather Products Manufacturers Association.

  • 2011:

    Exceeding One Billion mark on turnover in the history of our existence.

  • 2011: Winner

    - Silver Award in National Business Excellence Award in Apparel Textile and Leather Products Sector by the National Chamber Commerce.

    - 14 Awards won by CLPL Designers at Footwear and Leather Products Fair 2012 organized by the Export Development Board in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and Sri Lanka Footwear and Leather Products Manufacturers Association.

  • 2012: Winner

    Silver Award in National Business Excellence Award in Apparel Textile and Leather Products sector by the National Chamber of Commerce.

  • 2013: Winner

    - 18 Awards inclusive of merit certificate won by CLPL designers at Footwear and Leather Products Fair 2013 organized by Export Development Board in collaboration with Ministry of Industry Commerce and Sri Lanka Footwear & Leather Products Manufactures Association.

    - National Chamber of Exporters Awards 2013 Bronze award for Small Category Agriculture and Bulk Sector by National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka.

    - National Business Excellence Award 2013 Presented by National Chamber of Sri Lanka Merit award for Manufacturing- Apparel, Textile & Leather Products Sector.

  • 2014: Winner

    - 03 Awards [Gold, Silver and Bronze], inclusive of 7 merit certificates won by CLPL Designers at the Footwear & Leather Products Fair 2014 organized by EDB in collaboration with Ministry of Industry & Commerce and Sri Lanka Footwear & Leather Products Manufacturers Association.

    - National Chamber of Exporters Awards 2013 Bronze award for Small Category Agriculture and Bulk Sector Presented by National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka.

    - National Business Excellence Award 2014 presented by National Chamber of Sri Lanka Merit award for Manufacturing Apparel, Textile & Leather Products Sector Global Commerce Excellence Award 2014-In Association with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, in recognition to the service rendered to the Sri Lanka Economy by the Company

  • 2015:
